Groups (8k, 5k, Fun Run)

Please be sure to understand the differences between the 8k group, 5k group, and FUN RUN group before registering. Registering for the correct group is highly important for safety purposes as we will use this information to communicate to teachers when to send them to practice, this is the group they will be training with for the whole season and it should follow age and ability recommendations, and this is the information we use to register them for the race event.

Participants meet twice a week for 1.5 hours following school to train or the race program they are enrolled in (FUN RUN or 5k). In the program participants learn the core values of fitness, nutrition, and character skills. What is the difference between the FUN RUN and 5k? The fun run program trains for a 1 mile race and is in session for 6 weeks. The 5k trains for the 5k race (3.2 miles) and meets for 8 weeks. The 5k is for 8 year olds and above or experienced GO FAR participants. Both programs operate on the same schedule at the school, but the FUN RUN program starts two weeks later.

* Please note that First Flight Middle and Manteo Middle may register for the 8k group (this means they will run the 8k event), but they still follow the practice times for their school and train in collaboration with the 5k group there.
