3. Once we have all met thru orientation or communicated the initial info thru email; we will collaborate by schools. (I will send an email to each team of mentors at each school to discuss our game-plan for the season. I.e. I will send an email to all Nags Head coaches to confirm schedules, who is with 5k and fun run groups, our practice flow, and how we go about splitting up some of the roles and practice elements and what to expect each week at each school )

4. The top 3 things you need to know about GO FAR:
-The safety guidelines & procedures

Please review Behavior Policy for Participants & Safety Guidelines:

Practice Flow and Day 1 Highlights

1.       Participants arrive at 2:30

2.       ASEP students check in with ASEP teachers 1st.

Day 1: Arrive-check name-take picture –warm-up laps

 -1 volunteer check in participants.

-A volunteer help direct warm-up laps

-A volunteer to take participant’s picture holding a go far medal after check in on day 1 (get anyone that was absent on day 1 on day 2)

*Please note that warm-up laps are to get kids in and get them moving. It should be motivational and is an opportunity to start instruction to grab their attention while on the move.

*Tip: to help manage participants and to get everyone to start getting comfortable with one another, challenge participants to find someone they do not know very well and invite them to be their running buddy for warm-up laps. Try to start basic conversation and discover traits you may have in common. (keep it going , find a new person every 2 laps) Music is also a great motivational tool during this time if available.

3.       Intro of GO FAR

Discuss what go far is, expectations, and give brief motivational headlines.

4.       Warm-Up (See activity in lesson)

5.       GO OUT FOR A RUN

Run: 4 minutes, walk 2 minutes (x 5 cycles)

Between each cycle have a quick checkpoint: this is a chance for everyone to re-gather, do a head count, give feedback, ask questions (see samples and brainstorming questions under coaches’ corner on the blog)

6.       Report back at 3:20 (ASEP returns to their classroom, grab back-packs and folders and head to snack/pick-up.

7.       Complete closure. Be sure your area is clean before leaving. This time is a good time to reflect on the success of the day and the topics that may need improvement.

Parents/guardians are to sign-out on the attendance sheet before participant leaves.

Pick-Up = 3:45

(Lessons week 1-8 will be emailed to you in a slideshow format and then highlights for each week will be emailed prior each week)
